Polyester staple fiber, commonly known as polyester, is a short chemical fiber material made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) through melt spinning and cutting. It possesses high strength, abrasion resistance, and corrosion resistance, with a specific gravity of 1.38, a melting point of 255-260℃, and a breaking strength of 3.5-5.5 g/denier. It also exhibits excellent wrinkle resistance, dimensional stability, and resistance to weak acids and alkalis. Polyester staple fiber is widely used in textiles, apparel, and industrial manufacturing. Based on raw material source, it can be divided into virgin polyester staple fiber (made from PTA and ethylene glycol) and recycled polyester staple fiber (made from waste polyester).

In 2023, China's polyester staple fiber production reached 11.93 million tons. This fiber can be spun purely or blended with natural fibers such as cotton and linen. Through modification technology, it can achieve flame-retardant and antistatic properties. Flame-retardant polyester staple fiber is mainly used in interior decoration, flight suits, tents, parachutes, and industrial fabrics. Low-melting-point polyester staple fiber is gradually replacing traditional chemical adhesives used in the home textile and automotive interior industries.
