What Is Chip Spinning?

Chip spinning is a melt spinning process that produces fibers by melting and extruding solid polymer chips. The process mainly includes chip pretreatment, screw extruder melting, melt metering extrusion, cooling and solidification, and fiber post-treatment.

This process uses a screw extruder to achieve continuous melting and plasticizing of the material, and controls the temperature at each stage to ensure melt quality. Compared to direct spinning, chip spinning offers greater flexibility in producing different product types and is suitable for small-batch, differentiated fiber manufacturing, but large-scale production costs are higher. It is widely used in the production of synthetic fibers such as polyester and nylon.
