According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics and industry models, the Chinese organic cotton market exceeded 4.5 billion yuan in 2023, with a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.7%. It is projected that by 2028, the Chinese organic cotton market will exceed 12 billion yuan, maintaining a CAGR of over 15%. From a global perspective, the global organic cotton market is expected to reach a significant scale by 2031.

The main drivers of industry growth include policy dividends and the explicit encouragement of green fiber use under the "dual carbon" target. Over 60% of those born in the 1990s and 1995s are willing to pay a premium for environmentally friendly clothing. Amid the ESG investment boom, leading funds are incorporating supply chain sustainability into their core evaluation indicators, forcing brands to purchase "green raw materials."

Challenges the industry urgently needs to overcome include high costs. Certification fees and manual weeding costs drive up raw material prices, resulting in final selling prices more than double that of ordinary cotton products. Regarding consumer trust, the market is flooded with "pseudo-organic" products; a 2023 inspection by the State Administration for Market Regulation showed that the rate of non-compliant organic textile labels exceeded 15%. In terms of technological bottlenecks, organic cotton fibers have low strength, which restricts the development of high-end fabrics; the color fastness of natural dyes urgently needs to be improved.
