Organic cotton fibers are typically longer and finer than those of conventional cotton, resulting in better breathability and moisture absorption. Fabrics made from organic cotton have a brighter sheen, a softer feel, and better resilience, drape, and abrasion resistance. Furthermore, organic cotton fabrics are breathable, quick-drying, and less prone to static electricity.

Organic cotton has gradually gained popularity alongside the development of organic food, starting in the 1990s and flourishing in the early 21st century. While its quality was initially lower than conventional cotton, significant breakthroughs in cultivation techniques between 2005 and 2012 led to a substantial increase in yield, with quality indicators reaching 85%–95% of conventional cotton. Organic long-staple cotton, as a special category, is characterized by its long fibers, fine linear density, and high strength. Its demanding growing climate conditions result in fewer countries cultivating it and a smaller planting area, with an annual output of less than 3,000 tons, accounting for only 0.75% of the annual long-staple cotton production. Consequently, its price is 2.0–2.5 times that of conventional long-staple cotton.
